“Soft Yard Stories”

“Soft Yard Stories speaks to the gentle, intimate nature of Caribbean home life. In many islands, the “yard” is more than a physical space, it is where daily life unfolds, where children play, food is prepared, stories are shared, and culture is passed down. The word soft reflects the feeling of these memories, subtle, emotional, and not always sharply defined, much like how we remember childhood through fragments, colors, and sensations rather than exact details. This collection draws on those quiet, familiar moments, children coming home from school, a man cleaning fish, small houses surrounded by greenery, alongside cultural symbols like nutmeg, drumming, and the Mona monkey. Through a loose, expressive approach and vibrant palette, the work blends abstraction with storytelling, allowing memory and imagination to meet. Together, the pieces form a visual language of home that is both deeply personal and universally felt.”
