ABOUT COCOA

IN GRENADA

Cocoa has been an important part of Grenada's economy and culture since the late 17th century and the island is now known for producing high-quality "fine flavour" cocoa.

Farmers mainly grow Criollo and Trinitario cocoa varieties on small farms, often alongside spices like nutmeg and cinnamon, which many believe help give Grenadian cocoa its unique taste.

Grenada is sometimes called the

"Chocolate Capital of the Caribbean" because it not only exports cocoa beans but also produces local bean-to-bar chocolate. Traditional cocoa tea, made with grated cocoa and island spices, is also a popular drink.
